BerriBot vs HireVue (2026): AI interviews, compliance, India hiring

BerriBot vs HireVue: a fair comparison for enterprise hiring teams
HireVue has been doing this since 2004 and has run more than 80 million interviews. We're a much newer company. Anyone writing a comparison page in that position has an obvious temptation, and we'd rather skip it.
Short version: HireVue is the safest enterprise buy in this category and has the deepest industrial-organisational science behind it of anyone selling AI hiring software. If you're a US or European enterprise with a mature vendor risk process, they're a good answer. The place they don't answer well is India, and that's most of who we talk to. HireVue's published hosting footprint is the US and Europe, with no India data centre, no India entity and no published DPDP position.
Two things we want to get out of the way before the table, because both come up in every one of these conversations.
HireVue does not analyse faces any more
This one refuses to die, so here's the record. HireVue removed visual analysis from its assessments during 2020 and announced it publicly on 12 January 2021, alongside an algorithmic audit by ORCAA. HireVue's own announcement gives no percentages. Fortune, reporting a week later, put the contribution of non-verbal data at roughly 0.25 percent of predictive power in most cases and about 4 percent for roles with substantial customer interaction. Then CEO Kevin Parker told Fortune it wasn't worth the incremental value they might have been getting from it.
If you read a blog post in 2026 claiming HireVue scores candidates on facial expressions, that post is out of date by six years. We're not going to build an argument on something that isn't true.
Worth adding the other side too. The ORCAA audit's scope was criticised at the time, notably by Alex Engler in Fast Company, who argued it looked at one narrow use case and didn't examine the assessments HireVue had actually been criticised for. Both things are on the record.
The unresolved complaints are worth knowing about
In March 2025, the ACLU, the ACLU of Colorado and Public Justice filed complaints against Intuit and HireVue with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the EEOC. The allegation is that HireVue's automated speech recognition performs poorly for deaf applicants and for applicants who aren't white, producing artificially low scores. The complaint centres on an Indigenous Deaf woman with a strong performance history. No resolution has been announced.
Earlier, in November 2019, EPIC filed an FTC complaint about HireVue's facial analysis practices. No FTC resolution is documented there either.
We mention these because a serious procurement team will find them anyway, and because "allegation, unresolved" is the accurate description of both. HireVue also published a New York Local Law 144 bias audit in July 2023, run by DCI Consulting, with real selection rates and impact ratios across gender and ethnicity over a two year data window. Most vendors in this category have published nothing comparable. Weigh both.

HireVue's own figures don't always agree with each other. Their homepage says 40 percent of the Fortune 100; their press releases since January 2024 say over 60 percent. Interview counts run 70 million on the homepage and 80 million on the About page and in their February 2026 press release. We've used the higher, more recent numbers above because they favour them.
Where HireVue is genuinely stronger
Security and compliance posture. ISO 27001:2022, ISO 27701, SOC 2 Type 2 across all five Trust Services Criteria, SOC 3, and FedRAMP Moderate authorisation. FedRAMP is expensive, slow and rare in HR technology. We publish no certification list at all today. That's a real gap on our side and we're not going to pretend otherwise.
The science. This isn't marketing language for them. A named Chief Science Officer, adverse impact testing tied explicitly to the 1978 Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures, 1,300 validation studies, 75 peer reviewed publications, and Virtual Job Tryout inherited from the Modern Hire acquisition. If your legal team needs validation evidence for a selection tool, HireVue can produce more of it than anyone else in this market.
They published an actual bias audit. Named auditor, real numbers, applicant data from January 2021 to December 2022. Impact ratios of 0.98 for gender and 0.87 to 0.96 across ethnicity on the Communication competency. You can read it and argue with it, which is the point.
ATS depth. Workday Select Partner with over 140 live customers, Oracle Gold Partner with 100 plus, SAP Silver Partner with 50. Named, tiered partnerships with live customer counts attached, not a logo wall.
They offer a non-AI scored option. Assessment Builder, launched February 2026, lets teams pick AI scored or non-AI approaches. For a company with an AI governance policy that blocks automated scoring, that's a genuinely useful escape hatch.
Where BerriBot fits better
India. This is the real line between us. HireVue's published statement is that they're "co-located in the U.S. and Europe to serve clients in 180+ countries worldwide." There's no India data centre, no India entity, no India based support and no mention of the DPDP Act anywhere in their trust, legal or compliance material. Their privacy notice also explicitly carves candidate data out, leaving it to per customer contracts, so where an Indian candidate's interview recording physically sits isn't publicly disclosed at all. For an Indian enterprise, a GCC, or an IT services firm hiring thousands of engineers a year, that's a question you have to raise in procurement and may not like the answer to. Our engineering team is in Coimbatore. Ask us the same question and you'll get a direct answer.
Interview fraud specifically. HireVue lists cheating and fraud mitigation among its features. It isn't the thing the company is organised around. We built the interview around it. Berri Proctor detects micro-signals through 3D liveness detection and lip sync analysis, and in January 2026 we added smart glasses detection after training our vision systems on the publicly available Meta Ray-Ban devices, with an immediate flag, a candidate warning and a notification to the interviewer. India's volume hiring market has an active paid proxy industry, and it moves faster than annual release cycles.
Speed of change. A company of HireVue's size moves at enterprise pace, which is a feature for them and a constraint here. When a new cheating method shows up, we can get a detection layer out in weeks. We'd also repeat what our COO wrote alongside the glasses work: no detection system is 100 percent foolproof, and anyone claiming otherwise is lying.
Everything before the interview. Berri Connect runs the calls, WhatsApp, SMS and scheduling. In markets where candidates ghost phone calls and respond on WhatsApp, the funnel leaks before assessment even starts.
The honest gaps on our side
No published certifications. No published bias audit. No validation studies. No G2 reviews. No named ATS integration list. No published language list. If your evaluation scores vendors on documentation produced, HireVue wins that scorecard and it isn't close.
What we'd ask is that you score the thing you're actually buying. For a Fortune 100 US company running graduate hiring across 40 countries, HireVue's documentation is the product. For an Indian services company where the live question is whether the person on the call is the person who'll show up on Monday, it's a different purchase.
How to choose
Go with HireVue if you're a large US or European enterprise, if FedRAMP or public sector work is in scope, if your legal team requires published validation evidence for any selection tool, if you need a certified Workday or SuccessFactors connector in production now, or if you need the option to turn AI scoring off entirely.
Go with BerriBot if your hiring is concentrated in India, if data residency is a live question in your procurement, if proxy candidates and interview fraud are the specific problem, and if you want the integrity checks running inside the interview rather than as a separate review step.
If you're between them, the fastest way to settle it is to run both on the same requisition for two weeks and compare what came back, including how each handled the candidate who didn't look right.
FAQ
Does HireVue still use facial recognition in interviews?
No. HireVue removed visual analysis from its assessments during 2020 and announced the decision publicly in January 2021. Fortune reported that non-verbal data contributed roughly 0.25 percent of predictive power in most cases. Their current AI approach uses language analysis, cognitive games, situational scenarios and auto scored coding.
Does HireVue store data in India?
HireVue publishes no India data residency option. Their stated hosting footprint is the US and Europe. They also exclude candidate data from their public privacy notice, governing it through per customer contracts instead, so candidate data location isn't publicly disclosed.
What does HireVue cost?
HireVue doesn't publish pricing. Third party sites quote figures around $35,000, but one says per month and another says per year, and neither sources the number to HireVue. Treat all of them as unreliable.
Is HireVue being sued over AI bias?
Complaints exist and none has been resolved publicly. In March 2025 the ACLU and Public Justice filed complaints against Intuit and HireVue with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the EEOC over speech recognition accuracy for deaf and non-white applicants. In 2019 EPIC filed an FTC complaint about facial analysis. A separate 2024 case, Baker v CVS Health, concerned a CVS deployment of HireVue and named CVS as defendant, not HireVue. It settled in July 2024.
Is BerriBot a HireVue alternative for enterprises?
For first round interviewing and live interview integrity, yes, particularly for enterprises hiring at volume in India. For FedRAMP workloads, published validation science, or a large pre built assessment library, HireVue covers ground BerriBot doesn't.
Which one handles high volume technical hiring better?
Both are built for volume. HireVue has more scale evidence behind it. BerriBot's interviews pull questions from the candidate's own resume and include coding in an integrated environment, with fraud detection built into the interview product. For Indian technical hiring specifically, the deciding factors are usually data residency and proxy detection rather than throughput.
